Swerve and the YMCA of Long Island Announce Partnership

Fully immersive live-streamed cycling class experiences come to Huntington YMCA

NEW YORK, May 15, 2022 – Members of the Huntington YMCA now have access to Swerve, the world’s only live-streamed, team-based cycling experience. World-class trainers lead every workout via livestream. Everyone in the room is on a team, competing with other gyms in real-time. It’s a propulsive and invigorating cycling experience previously available only in boutique studios.

Swerve co-founders Eric and JH are Huntington natives who left their mark in 2005 after leading Huntington High School’s lacrosse team to win its first-ever state championship in lacrosse. But their athletic careers did not start there. Both have such fond memories at the Huntington YMCA – from learning how to swim as a toddler, to competing in youth soccer games, and training for their high school and college athletic careers at the YMCA of Long Island facilities. “We are beyond excited to return to our roots with this new partnership,” says Swerve Fitness Co-Founder and President John Henry McNierney. “By uniting riders together across the world towards a common goal, we hope to inspire people to push past their limits without hesitation through the power of team.”

“We are pleased to share an innovative, motivating and inspired new cycling experience with our members,” said Anthony Montalbano, Sr. Executive Director, Huntington YMCA. The Swerve classes are part of our group exercise fitness programs designed to foster healthy living for our Long Island community.

In late 2021, Swerve saw an opportunity to bring their unique cycling experience to more riders. They harnessed their scientifically proven method and their team-based technology to bring this highly motivating and fun and inclusive workout experience to gyms. By merging their specialized approach of boutique fitness with the access and capabilities of gyms, Swerve is doing something no fitness company has done before.

The team dynamic at Swerve motivates riders to challenge themselves and rack up personal bests. Working together with the other riders in the room fosters community and camaraderie, all while pushing riders to work harder through a little friendly competition.

About Swerve Fitness

Swerve Fitness was founded in 2013 by three former collegiate athletes who believed that working out alongside a team increases motivation, accountability, and – most importantly – fun. The company operated as the first-ever team indoor cycling studio, with locations across New York City, until 2020 when its doors closed due to COVID-19. Just as they do with their workouts, they turned that loss into motivation for their next win – a pivot into streaming their premium workouts into gyms and studios around the world.
